FOXM1 suppresses epithelial  differentiation and predisposes cells to tumorigenesis by expanding stem/progenitor cell population- it is a potential target for cancer therapeutics.

[This molecule was chosen due to] the role it has in controlling the cell cycle in progenitor/stemlike cancer cells. This area of research is addressing some fundamental cell biological processes, and this molecule and studies around its function could have implications for the “cancer stem cell” hypothesis which is a fundamentally important, hotly debated topic for cancer biology.

[FOXM1 is] a promising raw material that will serve as a significant target for cancer prevention.
